Volunteers at the Birch Run Community Cleanup

On August 17, Clean Memphis collaborated on our first cleanup with the Birch Run Community near Kirby High School. At the core of this dedicated group of community members is Ms. Felicia Webb, a longtime resident and champion of the neighborhood as well as the head of the recently revived neighborhood watch group. An avid runner, her daily runs through the community allow her to keep an eye on any litter or property blight issue that pop up.

Ms. Webb and her neighbors explained that they really wanted to focus on “gateways” into their neighborhood, especially since they are so close to the high school. Their concern for what visitors see when they come into Birch Run was one of the driving forces behind organizing a cleanup.

After their August event, Ms. Webb notified us that other residents saw the cleanup happening and are now interested in helping with the next one. One gentleman even stopped by with cold drinks after seeing the group out on the street.

Congratulations to Felicia and the Birch Run Community for bringing neighbors together and pulling off their first neighborhood cleanup!
