We recently had the opportunity to partner with Springdale Baptist Church for their Fall Serve Day. Nestled in the heart of the Hollywood-Springdale community, this congregation has worked to serve the greater Memphis community since 1928.
In 2018, under the leadership of Dr. Kevin Taylor, Springdale renewed their focus on stewardship specifically in the communities surrounding their church: Hollywood, Springdale, and Klondike. They launched two Community Serve Days with the goal to give back and serve hope to their community.
Community Serve Day consists of a variety of projects including:
- Hammers and Hearts, a minor home repair project focused on seniors
- Feed the Hungry, through which congregants serve over 100 meals to food-insecure neighbors
- The always popular Free Car Wash (we couldn’t help but take advantage of this ourselves!)
For the past two years Clean Memphis has partnered with Springdale Baptist Church for the cleanup portion of the serve day. “We want our church and community residents to take pride in the community in which we reside and serve. Furthermore, we want to be good stewards by doing our part to be good environmentalists. A healthy environment typically coincides with a healthier community,” said Taylor.
